Product changeover questions

What changes between products?

Alloy, hardness, stock to remove and the largest face that must stay in one setup decide grinding length and cross travel. A job that moves from tool-steel plates to aluminum fixtures also changes wheel grade, dressing interval and how the magnetic chuck or mechanical clamp is dressed. Catalog table travel does not prove every face will clear the wheel and guards with the actual fixture installed.

What must be cleaned or replaced?

Wheel, dresser diamond, coolant tank sludge and any magnetic chuck top plate that was scored on a previous lot. Ask each bidder to list which of those items sit inside the quoted machine and which arrive as separately priced tooling or site kits.

How is the first good output verified?

After spark-out, let the part stabilize, then measure size, flatness and surface finish with the buyer’s method. Record dressing counts and total process time so two factories are not compared on table speed alone. Public manufacturer pages may list grinding length, cross travel and dressing method as attributes to request; they are not this site’s promised models.

Compare procurement cost boundaries

A surface grinding machine RFQ is comparable only when machine, delivery and site columns use the same units. Leave a cell blank when the factory must survey the bay; do not let one bidder assume 480 V / 60 Hz while another assumes 380 V / 50 Hz.

Machine

Base grinder, standard wheel, magnetic chuck or table, guarding, and the dresser the factory lists as included. Connected load in kW and supply frequency in Hz belong here as quoted options, not as output claims.

Delivery

Export packing, inland freight to the US destination, lifting notes and whether a commissioning engineer is on the same invoice. Quantity and destination still have to be named or freight is guessed.

Site

Foundation, three-phase supply, coolant filtration, mist extraction and training hours. Footprint in millimetres and work envelope with the fixture installed decide whether the bay can accept the cell.

No numerical saving claim without comparable quotations.

What a surface grinding machine RFQ should include

Base machine

  • Dedicated surface grinding machine envelope: grinding length, cross travel and wheel dressing method as line items with units.
  • Standard tooling the factory ships with the serial: table, wheel flange, dresser and listed guarding—not every magnetic chuck or form wheel the brochure photographs.

Questions buyers ask before requesting quotes

Which procurement scope is covered by surface grinding machine?
Known input
Buyer names workpiece material, hardness, dimensions, required flatness and finish, datum, clamping method, quantity and US destination. Those facts define the brief; they do not yet prove a factory can hold them.
Supplier confirmation
The factory confirms usable grinding length and cross travel with the proposed fixture and wheel installed, plus dressing method, coolant treatment and how FAT samples will be measured after cooling.
What datum and clamping method prevent distortion during grinding?

State the reference face, whether a magnetic chuck, sine plate or dedicated fixture will hold the part, and how much stock remains after heat treat. Distortion shows up after cooling; a clamp that looked rigid on a short spark-out can still bow a thin plate. Ask the bidder to grind with the proposed holding arrangement, then inspect after stabilization. For fixture-first notes see the workpiece article. For dressing and coolant columns see the quotation article.
